Shots from the road: A hike behind Ushuaia

Leaving the clogged streets of Buenos Aires far behind, we’re now perched on the end of Patagonia in Ushuaia – the world’s most southerly city. ‘City’ seems a generous description foran outpost like this, but as the launch point for eye-wateringly expensive Antarctic cruises it’s not short on flashy shops. They’re priced along the same lines. £4500 for an EOS 5D Mk III body, anyone?

Once here, however, the views are free – and spectacular. On our first day, Sarah (a fellow guest at our hostel) joined Kirst and me for a climb up to the glacier behind the town, where we were rewarded with stunning views across the Beagle Channel. Those will have to wait for another time as I got predictably snap-happy!
