Puerto Varas is close to the beautiful Osorno volcano, a snow-capped cone that looks exactly how a volcano should. Not that we’ve been able to see much of it. Our day horse riding was the only clear day we’ve had around Puerto Varas; for the rest of the week it’s hammered down with rain.
Oh well, we’re probably owed after all the wonderful weather we’ve had so far. And our hostel, Margouya 2, has proved an excellent place to slow the pace for a few days. It’s a huge timber house with a big telly, tons of films and a cosy wood-burning stove; I can think of worse places to be on a rainy day.
Today the deluge cleared away to showers, so we visited the waterfalls at Petrohué. From there, Osorno came out of hiding for a while. Well, most of it.
