From Bariloche we headed north to Mendoza – the centre of Argentina’s main wine-growing region. The area’s renowned for its fine Malbecs, and visitors are welcome at many of the wineries that surround the city. We weren’t about to turn down the invite, so hired bikes one sunny Saturday to visit several vineyards in the nearby Maipú area.
The following day we realised we’d gone a bit overboard, having bought bottles of wine we had absolutely nowhere to store (the main pain when it comes to backpacking; so many souvenirs have gone unbought). Only one thing for it. We sat in Mendoza’s huge park with one of those bottles, soaking up the warm sun and tearing through Game of Thrones on the Kindles. Happy days.
